The focus of my artwork is a consuming passion for an abstract or semi abstract personal iconography, reflecting an interest in nature and ecology. I'm not too precious about particular artistic mediums, having tried many. But since the beginning of the year 2000, I've worked primarily with blown glass and oil paint on linen.
Living where I do, on a property with sub-tropical rainforest adjacent to national parks in Northern New South Wales, I'm fortunate to having a continuous experience with biodiversity, a relationship I constantly refer to in my artwork.
Another influence is the frequent reassesment and revisiting of earlier artwork. This enables me to continually develop ideas over an extended period of time as well as crossover between mediums. Typically my recent paintings have a kind of glassy or glazed appearance, while the blown glass pieces appear quite painterly.
The subject of birds and their habitat has reappeared and disappeared in my work for over 20 years, both quite figuratively and completely lost to abstraction in both the paintings and works in glass. The bird theme has expanded into secondary narratives including conservation and deep ecology.
